Watch movement simulate

Greetings!
I have a watch movement CAD file and I want to run it but I don’t no how I fill simulation parameters.
How do I wind and unwind a flat coil spring in my CAD with a simscale?

Hey jan_robar,

Thank you for posting on the forum.

Could you share the link to your project here so we can take a look?

Hi and thanks for the feedback.

Hi @jan_robar, thanks for the update!

I think what you’re looking for is the concept of rotating motion. However, I unfortunately don’t think SimScale would be the most fitting platform for such analysis, since your model is very complex and made of multiple interacting parts.

I’d like to ask: what is the goal you’re intending with this simulation, i.e., just to observe the kinematic behavior of the parts or to do some sort of structural analysis?

Please let us know for us to provide better support

Hi. Thanks for the reply. Actually, I didn’t think the model was too complicated. I just wanted to provide a rotational motion for the spring and see how the clock works.

Can’t I simulate the conversion of potential energy into kinetic energy?

Hi @jan_robar, the model isn’t complicated in terms of prediction of motion and kinematic behavior - but that sort of analysis is not fit for a Simulation platform. I think a CAD tool such as OnShape could handle that much better!

As to the conversion of potential to kinetic energy, I don’t think there’s a way to do it directly. However, mayber you’re looking for something similar as to what happens in this tutorial:
