Using porous medium

Hello there,
I want to use a porous medium (Perforated plate of Darcy Forcheimer). I see one can assign a Volume and/or(?) a Geometry primitive. Which one is mandatory? Assume that I have only one porous object(for now).
I tried to find this in the documentation, but could not find it.

If I have a Volume (say a box or a cylinder), I would think no Geometry primitive (say Carteisan box or cylinder) is needed. My trees are or boxes or cylinder, do I need to add a Geometry Primitive?
I now add my porous objects through the CAD interface. While Geometry Primities can be added in SImulation.
But I don’t really want to add for every tree a Geometry Primitive (certainly if they are the same shape…).

So what do I need to do for a Perforated plate of Dacy Forchheimer:
a) only include the Volume(s)?
b) remove the Volumes from the CAD and define Geometry primitive(s) and add them to the porous medium
c) do both: have the Volume(s) and the Geometry Primitive(s)?

Thanks for your help.

Hi, to capture each of your porous region you can use a CAD part OR a geometry primitive.

You can also use different strategies in the same simulation (e.g. capture some porous regions with a CAD part and some other porous regions with primitives). I personally prefer using CAD parts because the mesh respects the boundaries of the CAD parts and because it’s easier to setup.

The only thing that you shouldn’t do is to capture the same porous media with a CAD part AND with a geometry primitive.

Cheers

Thanks for the acknowledgement that the AND is not good.

All the best,
