Dear SimScale users!
Many of our users want to do a simulation with a geometry which has multiple solids but same material assigned to them. This means that either the solids have to be bonded or they should be merged before meshing. The first one is normally cumbersome and needs more effort to do whereas the second one normally is a good choice which only needs merging all solids in to one in order to avoid defining bonded contacts between them.
Therefore in order to show how easily and efficiently this problem can be solved, three gifs below shows a process of merging the solids on Onshape, importing it directly to workspace and than meshing the merged solid.
Please note that this meshing procedure is only valid for structural simulation. For fluid simulation one have to use snappy hex meshing technique.
Merging solids on Onshape via Boolean operation
Importing geometry from Onshape
Meshing the geometry
Doing these three small steps can save you a lot a time while setting up the simulation. Hope this helps everyone in the future. If you have any question/s, feel free to ask. Happy Simulating!
