As far as waves go, there’s not a ‘dedicated’ module that allows you to create waves - normally what I see is waves being created with an initial condition for phase fraction (e.g. like in this project).
Drag is easy to get with a forces and moments result control. As far as the other outputs go, maybe with the “Ship design analysis” solid body motion definition?
You can try and observe how the analysis was set up and apply that to your own simulation.
One quick comment is that this is done using the Multiphase analysis type, which is not available to Community users. If you’re a student, the Multiphase solver is available under our Academic Program though.
I did apply for student account online. I Sent an email, and I am waiting for the response. But I haven’t received any response yet. I read the thread for this project and the conversation is interesting. But they have not modelled degrees of freedom nor the wave generation. Besides, as well mentioned, I cannot see the settings of the project due to my account status. Furthermore, there’s no example on the forum or tutorials to show a boat in free surface in the wave with some degrees of freedom. Is there any way you can help me achieve this? Also, how much should I pay to buy a licence? Thanks
Could you exapnd on the degrees of freedom point? I’m not sure what you’re going for here - do you want to be able to model wave generation in multiple directions? Was Ricardo’s advice on how to generate the waves not helpful?
To request a quote, take a look here. However, please note that the professional license is usually provided for commercial applications!
Thanks
Degree of freedom of the boat, Heave, pitch, Roll, and yes, it will happen if I have waves are coming from head and oblique and following directions.
Also, the student account has some limitations (core hours). Until the end of my project, if I was unsuccessful in modelling what I wanted, I may need to buy a license, and I am wondering how much that would cost.
You could use Ricardo’s workflow and make the waves be generated in multiple directions - would that suffice?
Core hours limitation will be present on any sort of account, be it academic or professional - they work like a currency that is used to run simulations on the cloud!
