Axial piston movement of a gas compressor

Hello everybody,

My name is Guillermo, I’m a mechanical engineer working on gas compressor’s.

I’m looking for a way to simulate an axial piston gas compressor. And I can´t find a way to solve the axial motion.
Is there a solution for this aplication?

Thank you in advance

Hi @gaimetta, thanks for posting on the forum and welcome to the SimScale Community :handshake:

In case you just want to observe the parts’ movements and geometrical interactions, maybe a CAD tool is more suitable since these usually contain specific features to deal with these problems.

If you want to simulate, however, the stresses due to external loads or to thermal expansion, we have some options that might be interesting, such as:

Hi Igor,

Thanks for the quick reply.
What I want is to simulate the behaviour of the fluid in the cylinder chamber, the pressure variation and the filling of the cylinder.
All this, linked to the movement of the piston.

@gaimetta,

In this case, I don’t think you should be able to perform such a simulation using SimScale - especially due to the number of effects which need to be coupled in order to get it up and running.

If you just wanted to observe the filling of the cylinder, in the platform it might be done using the Multiphase solver or Multi-purpose solver’s multiphase capabilities. Multiphase is available to academic users of SimScale and Multi-purpose to professional users only.

Best,
Igor
