ON-DEMAND WEBINAR
Early-Stage Design Simulation for Architects with Zaha Hadid
Presented in collaboration with:
Zaha Hadid is an internationally renowned and prestigious architecture firm, pushing the boundaries of design and sustainability. They have completed almost 1000 projects in 44 countries and have worked on some of the most iconic and award-winning buildings in the world.
SimScale is a cloud-based simulation tool for modeling and simulating the built environment. Some of our most common customer use cases include using SimScale to simulate the impacts of wind and climate on buildings and masterplans.
This webinar will showcase how Zaha Hadid Architects are using SimScale to evaluate the climate impacts on their designs, with a focus on early-stage design simulation on the cloud. Our guest speaker, Carlos Bausa Martinez from Zaha Hadid Architects, is the Sustainability Team Lead and is responsible for environmental modeling within the practice.
No prior knowledge or software is required to join this webinar. All participants can get access to SimScale with all the required simulation features by creating a Community account on our website. If you are unable to attend the live session, we would still encourage you to register to receive the recording.
Sustainability Team Lead
Carlos Bausa is currently the Sustainability Team Lead in Zaha Hadid Architects and was Former Associate Environmental Design Analyst at the Specialist Modelling Group within Foster and Partners, a company he was part of for half a decade. Over the time he has been in ZHA, he’s been in charge of setting up an in-house team to work on merging computational design methods and the Environmental Simulation tools. Its main focus has been to expand the company agenda looking at new hardware and software tools, and defining new “Architectural Green Job roles’ ‘, creating opportunities for employees with environmental and sustainability background, combined with advanced 3D modelling skills. Carlos and his team are defining news strategies to optimize the project development workflows, to be able to deliver energy-efficient and sustainable designs in a unified way, across the practice. Their efforts are also focused on Designers and Team Leaders to be aware of the environmental impact of their design decisions, from the early stages, thus making it easier to find solutions that could meet the highest standards of comfort and sustainability.

Dr. Naghman Khan has a PhD in building simulation and is a founding member of the CIBSE Building Simulation Group and co-author of CIBSE AM11: Building Performance Modeling. He works with SimScale and technology providers to rapidly accelerate digital transformation for a sustainable built environment and is a published researcher on energy efficiency, microclimate simulation, and sustainable buildings.
“The SimScale platform has allowed us to develop and test scenarios including ventilation flow paths and understanding the dynamics between building fabric, airtightness, window natural ventilation design, and CO2 concentrations in various utilisation scenarios. The platform has given us quality, visually digestible output to inform decision-making and to compare results against our monitored data from our extensive post-occupancy studies. Working with SimScale has allowed us to study our learning spaces in a way we never have before. It has helped inform us on which design strategies may provide the biggest impact on performance. The visual outputs have real value, not just in terms of informing our decision-making, but potentially in communicating how classrooms can work and feel to clients and stakeholders.”
“Smartlouvre decided to recruit the expertise of SimScale because SimScale recognized the unique nature of the product and the fact that its performance was complex and challenging to simulate. SimScale’s expertise in the architecture, engineering, and construction sector meant they had a clear appreciation of all the challenges with simulating MicroLouvre performance criteria.”
SimScale is the world’s first cloud-native SaaS engineering simulation platform, giving engineers and designers immediate access to digital prototyping early in the design stage, throughout the entire R&D cycle, and across the entire enterprise. By providing instant access to a single fluid, thermal, and structural simulation tool built on the latest cloud computing technology, SimScale has moved high-fidelity physics simulation technology from a complex and cost-prohibitive desktop application to a user-friendly web application, accessible to any designer and engineer in the world.
