The objective of this project is to analyze the amplitude decay of various shapes (e.g., donut, rectangular, and triangular shapes) after applying an initial oscillation in water. This study focuses on understanding the damping effects and fluid resistance as the object oscillates across different regions: underwater, at the surface, and above the surface.

For this purpose, a CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) simulation with Fluid-Structure Interaction (FSI) is used to model the interaction between the object and water. This simulation approach allows for detailed analysis of resistance forces, damping rates, and amplitude changes over time as the object oscillates in and around the water.

In this simulation setup, the oscillation initiates from the object’s starting position, leading to gradually decreasing amplitude over time due to damping. A multiphase fluid model enables the simulation of the air-water interface as the object crosses the surface. The model also accounts for different fluid resistance levels based on object shape, allowing a comparison of damping characteristics. The simulation provides position data over time, visualizing amplitude decay and helping to analyze the unique damping properties of each shape.
