About this project

This is a model to help a Simscale user, as it was just a geometry with detail of a floating fender (couped steel pipe welded to much larger steel pipe, welds included). Somethings are unsure in this model. At this stage, you can add the material properties. Since it is a fender, my guess is that you will use rubber and steel materials. As such, you can do a Finite Element Analysis to see stress analysis with nonlinear or linear case, depending on what you need. However, based on the use as floating offshore fender, I suggest that you start with that. You have welded both pipes but one end is open and I do need see how itfloatings if the curved sheet faces up. You may need to look at existing fender designs... as it should be closed if it will be down, unless you are wleding it to a ship or an offshore structure. As for the analysis, you can apply the needed loading conditions you need, such as pressure load of about 6000 Pa or 7000 Pa, fixed end, and if you are doing an impact study, you need to add another material for the boat or ship. You can see academic papers on Fender analysis or Global Analysis of FPSO and fenders or for Shuttle Tankers During Side-by-Side Offloading and fenders. Hope that helps!
