Daria, Frontend Developer
What brought you to SimScale?
As an engineer, I have experience working with CAD systems: SolidWorks, AutoCAD, 3DsMax, Revit. I hope that helps me build a better product. Being a manager and having to create things, I also have experience with lots of graphics software.
What has been your biggest accomplishment at SimScale?
I made a great impact on CAD mode, and I suppose this has been so far my biggest accomplishment at SimScale. I’m very proud to be an important member of the SimScale Engineering Team, although I didn’t expect to find a job in such a short time after moving.
Carolina, Content & PR Manager
What is your background?
I was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and grew up in California and Texas. I spent a few years solo backpacking and living in Melbourne, Australia before moving to Germany for a master’s program.
What has been your biggest challenge?
Balancing our big ideas for marketing with the reality of resources. We’re a creative team with a lot of drive. Until we grow our team, we have to be smart and prioritize the proven strategies. I look forward to adding new energy to the team and establishing our cadence so we can dedicate more time to experimenting and indulging our creativity.
Lisa, Talent Acquisition Manager
What excites you?
I’m very excited about connecting with people from different backgrounds, getting to know them and their stories. I thoroughly enjoy working in talent acquisition and the People Team because I get to interact with all these amazing people on a daily basis.
What do people value about you?
I would say that I’m an empathetic, positive and open-minded person. I don’t mind if you change your mind a thousand times, I’ll adjust to it and will make the best out of it for all of us!
Shang-Hsin, Backend Developer
What makes you you?
I’m fast and adaptive. I like being direct and breaking things down to its fundamentals before building it back up. This is as much an advantage as a flaw though—good when dealing with problems but not so ideal when dealing with people. And as I’ve started to discover, these two things are quite often not mutually exclusive.
What has been your biggest accomplishment at SimScale?
Bringing CAD mode (interactive CAD) to life.
What are you proud of?
I’m proud that we are building something that is useful and potentially improves society as a whole.
Sabrina, Recruiter
What excites you?
After over 10 years of work experience in huge organizations, I am very excited about working for a startup like ours. It’s easy to connect with everybody. I love the diversity and culture at SimScale and especially our People Team. It’s a wonderful, warm, talented, and supportive team.
What are you proud of?
My work-life balance and a job that offers me that. I have a 2-year-old son and I like to spend as much time as I can with him but also follow the job I absolutely love. I have a wonderful team that is such a big pleasure to work with.
Sila, Junior Designer
What brought you to SimScale?
While studying in my second semester at my university, I wanted to work in my profession. I found SimScale on an online job search platform. I was excited to see that it includes a digital product that I would love to work on and aligns with my 3D background related to CAD software.
What are you proud of?
I am proud that I don’t say no when it comes to new tasks, even those that I haven’t had any experience or little experience with before. It leads me to improve my skills more and more. Until now, I have developed my skills a lot, and I keep improving.
Viktoriya, Graphic Designer
What brought you to SimScale?
Luck? 🙂 Without counting on anything (because there are too many graphic designers now, UI/UX-ers are more in demand), I applied for a vacancy and quite unexpectedly received an invitation for an interview from Joao.
What are you proud of?
I’m proud of being a part of such a great international team working on such a useful product.
What makes you you?
Black humor, the ability to laugh even at the most terrible situations that have happened to me, empathy for animals, and a terrible panic for any reason, which I skilfully hide.
Elisabetta, CAD and Meshing Software Developer
What has been your biggest accomplishment at SimScale?
Being able to build complex algorithms (that actually seem to work!)
What is your background?
I grew up in Pescara, a small city in Italy, but I’ve been living in Milan for 7 years. I enjoy living in big cities and, after my master’s degree, I decided to move to Munich to join SimScale.
What brought you to SimScale?
Two really simple things: I wanted to work on something challenging and interesting and I wanted to meet people from different cultures and backgrounds.
Nevena, Senior CFD Software Developer
What has been your biggest challenge?
Understanding that the learning curve does not have to flatten if you work with the right people on the right things.
What do people value about you?
Probably the ability to adapt myself to any situation and my tendency to always search for the good bits in it. I think people value my honesty and enthusiasm.
What is your background?
I’m a native Montenegrin and already as a kid, I fell in love with two things: traveling and technology. Since then I’ve been trying to find the spot in the world where I can combine both of them. Up until now, I have been working in the field of informatics and engineering all around Europe (5 different countries so far), and I visited many more just to learn something new about other nations and cultures.
Natalie, Recruiter
What has been your biggest accomplishment at SimScale?
This is my 9th week with the business and I’m excited to say I’ve made my first hire as a Recruiter at SimScale! I’ve been very fortunate to work with some super-engaged hiring managers and I’m very pleased with how my processes are running so far. I’ve written my first ever blog here at SimScale! Plus I’m very proud of creating a clearly long overdue sim_pets channel on Slack to make sure every employee gets their daily puplift.
What makes you you?
My humor and wacky personality for sure. I am a weird and wonderful human being that is never afraid to be silly. I always try to go the extra mile to make people laugh and smile. It’s just who I am! I haven’t had any complaints so far!
Mara, Sales Operations Specialist
What are you proud of?
My career so far. I’ve evolved from an introverted “numbers-person” to somewhat of a hybrid between a data-oriented person, who tries to understand and interpret analytics, and a people person, who values interpersonal connections and honest communication. And I’m proud that I’ve accomplished my long-time dream of relocating to Munich!
What has been your biggest challenge?
Learning to be less emotional and to deal with failure calmly. I’m an “all-in” kind of person, a perfectionist who takes everything seriously, so when things don’t go my way I often overreact and regret it later.
Nur, Application Engineering Working Student
What is your background?
I am from a small city called Canakkale (always cooler to say that it was the city where the ancient city Troy was located) in Turkey and finished my undergraduate studies in civil engineering in Ankara. Just after getting my degree, I moved to Munich to continue with my master’s studies in computational mechanics at TUM.
What has been your biggest accomplishment at SimScale?
Studying for exams, and trying to get good grades mostly feels like a personal experience. By starting my role at SimScale and working with people that are so enthusiastic about the product, I started to feel the team experience instead. Getting out of my comfort zone in which I was only focused on personal accomplishments, and now trying to have good impacts within a team feels like the biggest accomplishment.
Kanchan, Product Manager
What makes you you?
I tend to look for something good in even the worst of situations, sometimes coming across as hopelessly romantic, even impractical. But this trait enables me to make friends easily and hold on to them for life. I am fiercely loyal to my team and my family and I have this urge to do right by them, not let them down. I always strive to be the best version of myself, especially for the sake of my daughters. I hope that they can, one day, look up to me and be even better than me.
What has been your biggest accomplishment at SimScale?
Honestly, it is still early days and it is a long journey ahead :). But even if I were to say so myself, I am happy with the way the product and engineering plan has worked out for my initiative. I have a clear understanding of our short-term and long-term goals and supported by a fabulous team, I am confident in building a product that will be one of the leading tools in the industry.
Victoria, Email Marketing & Digital Ads Specialist
What is your background?
I’m originally from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where I studied marketing. During my studies, I spent one semester in Lisbon and since then I knew I wanted to come back to Europe. So in 2018 I kept studying and started my master’s in Science and Technology Studies, at the Technical University of Munich. I’ve always been interested in the intersection between technology and society, but I also always knew that I wanted to work in marketing!
What do people value about you?
I value friendship and honesty and I will always try to communicate things clearly. I think that makes me a reliable person. At work or in my personal life, people know when they can count on me!
Emilija, Sales Development Representative
What brought you to SimScale?
I was casually exploring the job market and what kept me going through the recruitment process is the great approach from Lisa and everyone else involved in the interviews I had. I realized that this technology has huge potential and wanted to be part of the amazing team.
What excites you?
Many things. Professionally, I am excited and motivated by winning; whether that is a contribution in winning over a new client or exceeding my KPIs. I am also excited about the opportunities to grow myself professionally. Personally, I am excited about simple things —traveling, exploring new cities, meeting friends, family reunions, and I am also excited about good food 🙂
Jessica, Director of Demand Generation
What has been your biggest accomplishment at SimScale?
Although I am still relatively new to SimScale, my biggest accomplishment has been helping to develop a successful demand generation team. They are stronger in their specialties and have found trust among colleagues to get hard projects across the finish line. I am a firm believer that your team is as strong as your weakest link, and my team strives every day to accomplish our goals, and be successful.
What makes you you?
My curiosity for learning more and trying new things, and my love of design and visual storytelling. Outside of work, I love landscaping, fishing, hiking, and being outdoors.
Preeti, People Engagement and Retention Manager
What are you proud of?
From not understanding a word of German to gaining German citizenship and owning a German passport. But to be honest I went through the painful citizenship process so that I did not have to stand in the non-EU queue at the airport! I had a tough time getting to where I am now but what doesn’t kill you, makes you want to eat more CAKE!
What do people value about you?
So I asked a few people this question because I do not want to blow my own trumpet. Jokes aside, the responses have to be the following: Intuitive — I trust my gut. Authentic — what you see is what you get. Honest — why lie to you when it will only hinder you and me? A discretionary listening ear — no one else needs to know. My cooking — even I surprise myself. My modesty (haha! seriously my trumpet just exploded).
Fillia, Customer Support Engineer
What brought you to SimScale?
The first time I used SimScale was back in 2016 during my Formula Student years. We tried experimenting with a different platform other than OpenFOAM and wanted to go for a more user-friendly approach. Fast-forward to three years from that, I took part in a competition held by SimScale and won in some of the categories. Then I started using the forum, became a Power User, and eventually, the Community & Academic Program Manager. Eventually, Jousef, contacted me for a position as a Customer Support Agent.
What do people value about you?
It is important to me that I develop bonds and a safe space for my colleagues to express themselves and share their thoughts and stories. Building work relationships during the pandemic is a hard task, but I want to believe that when my colleagues think of me, they think of an open person that tries to hype them up, listen and support them as they deserve!
Evgeniia, Senior Test Automation Engineer
What is your background?
I’m originally from a small town in Russia. At the age of 16, I moved to Kazan to enter a university. At the same time, I became thrilled about karate and started my journey with daily training and frequent competitions. My first job was as a kindergarten karate trainer. In my last year of university, I started to work at a software company that provided trading products to the US market. My last job in Russia was at a betting company and the most exciting part was to be a part of a team that developed and evolved sports math models and to lead a team of 30+ members. I moved to Poland 4.5 years ago. I had never been abroad before and had never spoken English besides English classes, and I found it exciting 🙂
What excites you?
At work, high concentration of good specialists and technologies. Besides, reading, traveling, food, and everything that is even slightly related to food.
Zainib, Junior Software Tester
What brought you to SimScale?
My husband! He was already working at SimScale and suggested that I look into the specifics of the product. I found it very intriguing and definitely impressed with the product. Since I always wanted to learn automation, I applied for a QA role and got the job.
What are you proud of?
Multiple things: I was able to publish 9 international conference and journal research publications in data science and blockchain when I was working as a Research Associate in the last year of my master’s degree. It was something I never thought I would be able to do. Then, moving to Germany, not knowing a single word of German, and still being able to score a job within 4 months of searching for it. I’m proud of settling down here, even though it has not even been a year since I moved. All of it is definitely a challenge for me and I am all here for it — bring it on!
Monique, Senior Marketing Campaign Manager
What is your background?
I was born and raised in Kingston, Jamaica, and came to the USA for university studies in Pennsylvania. Currently, I live in California where the sunshine and warmth are reminiscent of home! I stumbled upon my love for marketing in my first “real job” out of college. What started as a sales support role branched to various marketing roles including project management, ghost-writing for company blogs, video production, and voiceovers, and designing dynamic campaigns to guide prospect or customer needs to solutions. Outside of work and for years, I balanced a professional career in track and field (sprint hurdling events) and also coached athletes. Calls from my agent meant I needed to take care of business on the track and these opportunities were even more enjoyable in places like St Maarten, Brazil, Poland, Japan, or wherever in the world I needed to be to compete.
What makes you you?
I tend to put others before myself, listen and observe more than I speak, and seek out practical ways to make someone’s day better.
Nathalie, Office Management Assistant
What are your responsibilities at SimScale?
My work includes various tasks. For example, if a new employee gets hired, it is my job to prepare the welcome box for them, as well as sending out gifts for different clients. Besides that, my responsibilities involve taking care of the office. I am responsible for ordering food and drinks for the office kitchen, but also buying new cleaning or kitchen supplies. Right now, my biggest task is to help Preeti with the organization of the upcoming SimScale summit in April. So at the moment, I am busy with hotel bookings for all the SimScalers that are planning to join the summit in Munich.
What is your background?
I was born and raised in Munich and also graduated there. After finishing school, I decided to do a gap year and spent most of my time working and traveling through South America. In October 2020 I started to study communication sciences at the University of Vienna, where I‘m still studying now.
Shannon, Account Executive
What brought you to SimScale?
Our mission and team. I’ve always gravitated towards the start-up environment; however, I wanted to be aligned with an organization that was forward-thinking. What we’re doing at SimScale is so different than any other solution in the market. Everyone collectively working together to “shake things up” is exactly what I was looking for and why I’m still here.
What makes you you?
I take pride in always being honest, and present in the moment. Even when you’re having a bad day it’s important to show up, do your best, and communicate with those around you. Sometimes the best thing you can do is show up, but at least you did.
