Gartner has recently released the “Cool Vendors in Product Design and Life Cycle Management, 2016” (Release date: 04 May 2016) report, and we were happy to see SimScale listed there.
We Are a “Cool” Simulation Solution on the CAE Software Market
SimScale is the first and only analysis and simulation environment fully accessible through a web browser that, in addition to an affordable paid plan, offers freemium access to powerful engineering simulation capabilities through its community plan. We think this is probably the reason why SimScale was the only computer-aided engineering (CAE) solution provider included in the 2016 Gartner report.
A few unique aspects of SimScale are: a broad range of capabilities to create simulation models ranging from CFD and FEA to Thermodynamics and Electromagnetics with open-source solvers such as OpenFOAM, Code_Aster, or CalculiX, up to 3,000 free core hours for simulation annually, and our flexible pricing which depends on the storage, time, and level of support needed.
The Era of Cloud-Based Product Design and Lifecycle Management Software is Upon Us
We have highlighted in the past how cloud computing and SaaS are becoming the new “normal” and that according to IDC, 27.8% of the enterprise software market will be SaaS products by the end of 2018.
Gartner also recognizes that “the era of cloud-based product design is upon us. This year’s Cool Vendors capitalize on cloud platforms, enabling digital twins and smart products.”
Cloud-native applications in product design are a great alternative, especially for smaller and medium-sized businesses that would like to gain a competitive advantage without spending thousands of dollars on licensing fees or deployment of HPC hardware.
At SimScale, we believe that engineering simulation can be extremely useful in building great products, and that’s why we are focusing on removing the barriers of traditional software, which up until now were preventing smaller organizations from taking full advantage of simulation technology. We are leveraging both cloud computing and the power of community to eliminate barriers such as high installation costs, licensing fees, deployment of high-performance computing hardware, and a long onboarding process.
SimScale: A Young Company in the Mature CAE Software Market
Despite all the benefits that a cloud-based CAE solution can bring to an organization, there is a challenging path that SimScale, as a young company, has to face in order to gain recognition among the larger players. This is especially applicable in the more regulated industries—such as aerospace or automotive—which have been using the same simulation software for years.
However, with cloud-native solutions gaining greater acceptance and overall IT spending decreasing, it looks like SimScale will soon start gaining more and more recognition and revolutionizing the larger and older organizations, helping them save time and money by shifting to browser-based simulation solutions.
