  • Boosting Employee Engagement: The SimScale Photo Challenge

The Importance of Employee Engagement at SimScale

At SimScale, we prioritize the well-being and engagement of our employees and strive to foster a supportive and inclusive workplace culture. Recently, we organized our third photo challenge — a great initiative to connect with our team members, especially since a majority of us work remotely around the globe.

Today in our blog, we’d like to share how a couple of initiatives not only strengthen bonds among colleagues but also promote creativity across our diverse workforce. We believe that a connected and motivated team is key to our collective success and innovation.

Increasing Engagement with a Photo Challenge

This year’s theme for the photo challenge was “That Photo Makes Me Happy.” Everyone had one week to submit their favorite photo, which were shared in a dedicated Slack channel. All team members had the chance to vote using emojis, and the photo with the most likes won a fantastic prize!

We’re excited to showcase some of the submitted photos and announce the winning picture. It was a delightful experience seeing what makes everyone happy — from sharing photos of family, animals, and hobbies to work achievements!

Our winning picture was from one of our developers as she proudly shared her coding progress.

Elisabetta: “This makes me really happy”

    Some other entries:

Fillia: “A winning team in Formula Student Netherlands last summer where I was an aerodynamics judge.”
Stefano: “Roots. The place where my father was born.”
    Antonella: “Still waiting for Friday.”

    Bringing Our Team Together

At SimScale, we consistently aim to organize great initiatives and events to bring our team together, in person or virtually. We’ve arranged a couple of culture nights where employees shared insights into their home countries, cooked home-style food, and enjoyed it together. We also host virtual game nights for all our employees to help them stay connected and have a great time with their colleagues.

For those who are on-site in Munich, we arrange meetups for sports activities like soccer, basketball, or running. Given our location near the mountains, we try to rent a big bus every year to take employees skiing or snowboarding nearby.

Every year, we host our spectacular SimSummit event where we invite all our team members from near and far to Munich for an unforgettable week together. It’s a fantastic opportunity for teams to connect face-to-face, indulge in delicious food, and enjoy a variety of fun activities with the entire team. It’s a week filled with laughter, collaboration, and memorable experiences that strengthen our bonds and energize us for the year ahead.

Supporting our Employees Through Engagement Conversations

One of the standout benefits at SimScale is having Preeti, our amazing People Engagement and Retention Manager, who is a Psychologist and ensures the wellbeing of our employees. Every team member — from new starters to long-term employees — has regular check-ins with her, where she ensures they are thriving and have everything they need. She pays close attention to both physical health and any work-related tension, making sure everyone feels supported and valued. All employees know they can reach out to her at any time, and she works tirelessly to find solutions together with them.

“With most SimScalers working remotely from around the world, employee engagement is very important to ensure we stay connected to our colleagues and SimScale’s mission and vision. Preeti (People Engagement) and the SimCare team (a group of colleagues who plan various internal events throughout the year) do a great job of ensuring we stay engaged and are happy. Whether it’s through events where we can all meet together or through wellbeing check-ins, our engagement is always a priority at SimScale.”

    Taylor Marketing Team

“Employee engagement is the glue that holds work groups together as we move forward in our pursuit of achieving our vision.”

    Mati People Team

At SimScale, we’re dedicated to nurturing a vibrant and connected team. Our recent photo challenge and various engagement initiatives have the purpose to create a supportive and inclusive workplace. We’re proud of the creativity and team spirit that our employees bring to these events and appreciate the ongoing efforts of everyone contributing towards keeping everyone connected and engaged in an inclusive working environment, starting with Preeti and our SimCare team as well as our DEI task force.
